Terms of service
The free review needs no account. If paid Coach plans are offered, they renew until you cancel, and you can cancel any time.
The free service
The game review is free and needs no account. It runs in your browser. By using Explain My Chess you agree to these terms.
Coach subscription
If Coach is offered as a monthly or yearly subscription, it renews automatically each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in the billing portal, which you open from your account page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and you keep access to Coach until then. If a renewal payment fails, access pauses until the payment goes through.
Lifetime purchase
If a lifetime option is offered, it is a one-time payment. It gives you Pro access, including Coach, for as long as Explain My Chess operates the service. It is not a promise that the service will run forever, and it does not cover other products we may add later. Lifetime has a limited early-bird price for the first 100 buyers; after that the regular lifetime price applies. Lifetime access is subject to the fair-use limits below.
Fair use
Pro, including lifetime, is for personal use. Each account can use up to 100 Coach-explained games and 50 scoresheet photo scans per calendar month (UTC), and there is also a daily limit on Coach explanations. Repeating a game we have already explained doesn't count. Limits reset on the first day of each month. Sharing an account, or using scripts to generate bulk usage, is not allowed, and we may limit or suspend access that does.
Prices
Current prices are listed on the pricing page. Prices are in US dollars and are shown again at checkout before you pay.
Refunds
If you're not happy, email us within 14 days of your first payment for a monthly or yearly plan, or within 14 days of a lifetime purchase, and we'll refund it in full. After that, you can cancel any time and you won't be charged again; we don't refund partial periods. Refunds go back to the original payment method. To ask for one, email [email protected] from the address on your account.
Acceptable use
Use the service lawfully and fairly. Don't attack, overload or scrape it, don't try to get around sign-in or payment, and don't resell access. We may suspend accounts that break these rules.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is". Engine analysis and written explanations can be wrong or incomplete. They are study aids, not professional coaching, and we don't guarantee any improvement in your play or rating.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses from using the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the service after a change, you accept the new terms. Changes don't alter what you have already paid for.
