Lichess Game Review: Free, in Your Browser

Enter your Lichess username, pick one of your recent finished games, and get a full engine review. It is free, needs no sign-up, and the engine runs on your own device.

Updated

Your browser asks the site directly for your recent public games.

What Lichess already gives you

Lichess has its own computer analysis. Its features page lists “Deep Stockfish 19 server analysis” at “40 games per day”, and an analysis board with Stockfish that is “Unlimited”. Its accuracy page says Win% and Accuracy% are used “to identify inaccuracies/mistakes/blunders in game analysis”. If that does what you need, use it. It is a strong free tool.

We read those pages on 28 October 2026. They can change, so check them before you rely on a limit.

What this page adds

  • No game counter. We do not count your reviews, because the engine runs on your device.
  • A sentence for key moves. For a move that mattered, one plain sentence says why, built from engine lines.
  • Lines you can play. Click a line chip and the moves play out on the board.
  • Brilliant and great labels with stated conditions.
  • A leak report over your recent games, with a share card you can save.

The engine is a lite Stockfish 18 build. It will not match a desktop engine run for hours, so use labels as a guide to where to look.

How the import works

  1. Type your Lichess username in the box above. Your browser asks Lichess directly for your recent public games.
  2. The box lists your recent games. Pick one.
  3. The review opens and the engine in your browser analyses every move. A quick pass runs first, then a deeper pass re-checks the key moves.

Only finished standard games are loaded. Requests go out one at a time, and if Lichess asks us to slow down we wait 60 seconds before trying again.

Server analysis or your browser?

When Lichess has already analysed a game, its evaluations come with the download. We use them in one place: the leak report, which scans up to 50 games at once. Games without Lichess analysis get a quick pass from the engine in your browser, and the report says how many of each it used.

The single-game review does not use them at all. It always runs the engine in your browser, so a game you analysed on Lichess and a game you did not are reviewed the same way.

Not on Lichess for this game?

Paste a PGN instead. The PGN analyzer guide shows where to find it, and the accuracy page explains the percentage you will see. Curious what a game's accuracy says about rating? See the chess Elo estimator.

Questions

Do I need to log in to Lichess or to this site?

No. We read your public games by username only. There is no sign-up on this site, and we never ask for a Lichess password or token.

Does it use the analysis that Lichess already ran on my game?

Only in the leak report, and only for games Lichess has already analysed. The single-game review always runs the engine in your browser, so you get the same kind of result for every game.

Why do my accuracy numbers differ from Lichess?

Lichess says on its accuracy page that there is no universally accepted way to compute accuracy percentages. We follow the method Lichess publishes, but our engine build and search budget differ, so small gaps are normal.

Which Lichess games can I review?

Finished standard-chess games. We skip aborted and unfinished games, and variants such as Crazyhouse or Atomic.

Explain My Chess is not affiliated with Lichess. Lichess is a trademark of its owner. Features and limits change, so check lichess.org before you decide.
