How to Get the PGN from Chess.com

Chess.com publishes the steps to download a PGN of a game, or of many games at once. Paste that text in the box to review it here. You can also skip the PGN and enter a Chess.com username instead.

Free, no sign-up. The engine runs in your browser.

The steps below follow Chess.com's Help Center article on getting a PGN. Menus can change; if a label does not match, use that article.

On the Chess.com website

  1. Open the game.
  2. On the Analysis tab, click Share at the bottom.
  3. In the pop-up, open the PGN tab and click Download.
  4. To include clock times, tick the box next to the clock icon.

If you want your own analysis in the file, run the game analysis first, then click Share at the bottom of the right-side panel. Chess.com says you can save either your annotations or the computer analysis with the PGN, but not both.

On Android

  1. Open the game.
  2. Tap More in the lower left, then Export PGN.
  3. Or tap Copy to copy the PGN text.

On iPhone

  1. Open the game.
  2. Tap the magnifying glass at the top right to open Game Analysis.
  3. Tap Options in the bottom menu, then Share.
  4. Or tap Copy to copy the PGN text.

Several games at once

Chess.com lists two ways to save more than one game.

  1. Open Game History for you or another player. Tick the games you want, or tick the top box next to the Date dropdown to select all, then click Download.
  2. Download a whole month from the Published-Data API. Replace the username, year and month in https://api.chess.com/pub/player/<username>/games/<YYYY>/<MM>/pgn. Chess.com says opening that link downloads a standard multi-game PGN for that month.

Getting a PGN from Lichess

The Lichess features page lists “Download/Upload any game as PGN” as available on the free plan and for Patrons. If you only want a review, you can skip the file: choose the Lichess tab in the box above and enter a username.

To download games for a whole account, the official API spec at lichess-org/api documents https://lichess.org/api/games/user/<username>. A max parameter limits how many games to download. Leave it empty to download all games.

What to do with the PGN

  • Paste one game in the box above and press Review.
  • For several recent games, use the report.
  • Or skip the PGN: enter a Chess.com username on the Chess.com analysis page and pick a game.
